Project Status Update, 03/12/2026:

Please check the Iowa DOT links ABOVE for the latest information from the DOT. This is a DOT-led project, and this City webpage may not have their latest information. The Iowa DOT will post detours and message boards for all closures.

  • 3/12/26 from the Iowa DOT: Our construction crew needs to reconfigure the northbound I-35/eastbound I-80 lanes of traffic by shifting the travel lanes to the east. Work will be taking place in the middle of the interstate this year; the work includes reconstructing the pavement and replacing the existing bridge in the center of U.S. 6/Hickman Road. The following closures are planned to implement the new traffic shift:
    • Northbound I-35/Eastbound I-80 will be closed to traffic March 16 - 20 from 10 p.m. – 4 a.m. Backup dates if weather is an issue will be the following week, March 22 - 27.
    • The ramps at University Avenue and U.S. 6/Hickman Road will also be opened to traffic once the shift has been made.

Upcoming overnight closures – Please see links ABOVE for the latest information.  When I-80/I-35 is closed, you will typically follow a marked detour route that uses I-235, 100th Street, NW Urbandale Drive, and I-80/I-35.

Trail closures in the Clive Greenbelt began last fall.  Detours are posted for bicyclists and pedestrians.

See the latest information on closures and detours on the Iowa DOT Project webpages linked above.
