This project in 2026 will include reconstruction of 142nd Street as a four-lane roadway with left-turn lanes from Oakwood Drive to Waterford Road. It will also include a 10' trail along the west side of the project and storm sewer improvements. Additionally an HMA overlay for the mile north of Waterford Road. This project will require 142nd Street to be closed to thru traffic. Elder Corporation has been awarded the project.
Project Update 3/23/2026
The Contractor for this project is planning to close the intersection of 142nd Street and Waterford Road on Monday, April 13, 2026, weather permitting. The intersection will be closed, and detour signs will be posted. They will start with utility relocation and pavement removals. Detour and construction phasing documents are linked below. Message boards will be posted letting drivers know about the upcoming closure. Check the website for updates on the project and closures.

This project in 2026 will include an HMA overlay from 142nd Street to a half mile west of 156th Street. This work is part of a larger City of Grimes Project. More information will be provided in the future. See layout for the work in the City of Urbandale below.
