Garbage, Recycling & Yard Waste

The Solid Waste Division helps to maintain a clean and healthy Urbandale environment by collecting and disposing of residential garbage, recycling, and yard waste. Household garbage is collected weekly by the City of Urbandale. Yard debris is collected weekly by the City of Urbandale through the MWA Compost It! program. Recyclables are collected every-other week by Waste Management through the MWA Curb It! recycling program.

Collection Schedule

Trash, Curb It! and Compost It! is normally collected Monday through Thursday. Residents should place their containers and Compost It! bags at the curb by 6:30 AM on the morning of their collection day. View the collection schedule here.

Holiday Schedule

If a holiday falls on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, there is no collection on the holiday and collection is delayed one day for the remainder of the week. Holidays for 2023 without trash or recycling collection are:

• Memorial Day - Monday, May 29 (All collections delayed one day)
• Independence Day - Tuesday, July 4 (Monday on schedule, the rest of the week delayed one day)
• Labor Day - Monday, September 4 (All collections delayed one day)
• Thanksgiving Day- Thursday, November 23 (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday on schedule, Thursday delayed one day)
• Christmas Day – Monday, December 25 (All collections delayed one day)
• New Year’s Day – Monday, January 1, 2024 (All collections delayed one day)

Collection normally scheduled for these days will occur on the following weekday, collection will be delayed for all households by one day for the remainder of the week.
