The Solid Waste Division helps to maintain a clean and healthy Urbandale environment by collecting and disposing of residential garbage, recycling, and yard waste. Household garbage is collected weekly by the City of Urbandale. Yard debris is collected weekly by the City of Urbandale through the MWA Compost It! program. Recyclables are collected every-other week by Waste Management through the MWA Curb It! recycling program.
Trash, Curb It! and Compost it! is normally collected Monday through Thursday. Residents should place their containers and Compost It! bags at the curb by 6:30 a.m. on the morning of their collection day. View the collection route map (PDF).
If a holiday falls on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, there is no collection on the holiday, collection is delayed one day for the remainder of the week. Holidays for 2020 without trash or recycling collection are:
New Years Day- Wednesday, January 1st (Wednesday and Thursday collections delayed one day)
Memorial Day- Monday, May 25th (All collections delayed one day)
Labor Day- Monday, September 7th (All collections delayed one day)
Thanksgiving- Thursday, November 26th (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday on schedule, Thursday delayed one day)
Collection normally scheduled for these days will occur on the following weekday, collection will be delayed for all households by one day for the remainder of the week.
