Garbage, Recycling & Yard Waste

The Solid Waste Division helps to maintain a clean and healthy Urbandale environment by collecting and disposing of residential garbage, recycling, and yard waste. Household garbage is collected weekly by the City of Urbandale. Yard debris is collected weekly during yard waste season by the City of Urbandale through the MWA Compost It! program. Recyclables are collected every-other week by Waste Management through the MWA Curb It! recycling program.

Collection Schedule

Trash and recycling is normally collected Monday through Thursday. Residents should place their containers at the curb by 6:30 AM on the morning of their collection day. View the collection route here.

Holiday Schedule

If a holiday falls on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, there is no collection on the holiday and collection is delayed one day for the remainder of the week. Holidays for 2026 are:

• Memorial Day - Monday, May 25 (All collections delayed one day)
• Independence Day - Saturday, July 4 (All collections on schedule)
• Labor Day - Monday, September 7 (All collections delayed one day)
• Thanksgiving Day- Thursday, November 26 (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday on schedule, Thursday delayed one day)
• Christmas Day – Friday, December 25 (All collections on schedule)
• New Year’s Day – Friday, January 1, 2027 (All collections on schedule)

Collection normally scheduled for these days will occur on the following weekday, collection will be delayed for all households by one day for the remainder of the week.
