The City of Urbandale has partnered with Metro Waste Authority's to provide options to properly dispose of household hazardous wastes. It is important that you dispose of any hazardous waste items correctly. Failure to do so may cause harm to other people or the environment.
Many people don’t realize that common household cleaners, bug spray, and even some paints are hazardous waste and need to be disposed of with special care. Metro Waste Authority offers residents options to safely dispose of household hazardous waste.There is a $25 fee for this collection. Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Events will be held from 8 a.m. to Noon, the second Saturday of the month from March to December at the New Metro Northwest Transfer Station, located at 4105 Beisser Drive in Grimes. Residents can bring up to 75 pounds of common household hazardous materials free of charge. This Drop-Off will also accept latex paint for $1 per gallon and $5 per $5 gallon buckets. The MWA Regional Collection Center for Hazardous Waste is locate at 1105 Prairie Drive SW in Bondurant and accepts most household hazardous waste at no charge. Visit the MWA website for more information on hours, fees, accepted item and the swap shop.
