Tennis & Pickleball Courts

Walker Johnston Park Courts - 9000 Douglas Avenue: 
Walker Johnston Park has 8 tennis courts, which are also lined for pickleball.  In addition, the park has 4 designated pickleball courts.  Walker Johnston courts are open to the public FREE of charge, except at times when there are City-scheduled programs.  A schedule of activities are posted at the bulletin board outside the courts.  Reservations are not accepted.

Rick Boals Park Courts - 77th Street and Roseland Drive: 
Rick Boals Park has 2 tennis courts, which are also lined for pickleball.  These courts are open to the public FREE of charge.  Reservations are not accepted.  Court Courtesy: Please limit open play to 1 hour if others are waiting to play.


Lions Park Courts - corner of 71st Street and Prairie Avenue:
In June, 2025, 4 new designated pickleball courts and one tennis court were installed at Lions Park.
Reservations are available, but not required.  When the courts are not reserved, the courts are available for open play.  

Lions Park Court Reservation Rules:
Reservations for the Lions Park tennis and pickleball courts are done through the Urbandale Parks and Recreation online reservation system.   QR code is posted at the courts, where patrons can check court availability and make reservations online.

Fees: $10 resident, and $15 non-resident per hour, per court.  Maximum 2 hours total per day.
Hours: 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.  (The latest reservation starts at 9:00 p.m.)
Court Lights:  Court lights are turned on with activator button at east entrance.

Lions Park Court Reservations can only be made two weeks in advance, and up to 2 hours prior to rental time.
Patrons are allowed to reserve a maximum of 2 hours per day.

Inclement Weather: Reservations impacted by severe weather may contact the Urbandale Parks & Recreation office within three (3) business days after the original reservation date to reschedule or receive a Parks & Recreation registration account credit. Renter must request credit within 3 business days or no credit will be given.

Courts are not available for reservation for the 2 weeks leading up to the 4th of July holiday.
