Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan

Urbandale Parks & Recreation uses your input to envision the future of our parks system and recreation facilities. This comprehensive plan, referred to as the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan will help meet the needs of current and future residents, by positioning the City of Urbandale to build on the community's unique parks and recreation assets and identify new opportunities. This is an over-arching document that address the parks system as a whole. Some parks have specialized master plans to help guide staff and officials with more detail in that particular park.

The plan was resident-driven and establishes a clear direction to guide City staff, advisory committees, and elected officials in their efforts to enhance the community's parks system, open space, trails, recreational facilities, programs and services. The final version of the plan was presented to the City Council and accepted at the May 22, 2018 Council Meeting. A copy of the draft plan can be downloaded below.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the surveys, community engagement sessions, and focus groups. Your ideas will help shape the Parks System for years to come!
