Criminal Investigation Division
It is the responsibility of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) to thoroughly investigate all unsolved cases reported to the police department and thoroughly process and investigate all crime scenes where it is believed that evidence pertaining to the crime can be recovered.
Due to that mission there was always a Detective and Crime Scene Investigator (CSI) person on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Division Commander
Captain Matt Logsdon is the commander of the Criminal Investigation Division. In 1997 he joined the Urbandale Police Department and has served as a Patrol Officer and Detective.
In September of 2002, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. As a Sergeant he has supervised as a Patrol Sergeant, as a General Criminal Investigations Sergeant and as a Narcotics Task Force Sergeant. He has served as an operator, team leader and the S.W.A.T./Suburban Emergency Response Team Commander during his career thus far.
On February 8th, 2013 he was promoted to rank of Captain and made the Patrol Division Commander. This position included supervision of three patrol shifts that provide service to the Urbandale Community. On January 1, 2017 Captain Logsdon was made Commander of the Administrative Services Division and on May 7, 2018 he assumed command of the Criminal Investigation Division.
