Under the administrative direction of the Fire Chief, the Assistant Fire Chiefs manage the planning of and directs the functions of the Fire Department. The Assistant Fire Chiefs supervises department personnel in planning and assigning work projects, and following up on their progress. In short, the Assistant Fire Chiefs are responsible for supervision, coordination, evaluation and performance of UFD personnel.
The Assistant Fire Chiefs, as part of the senior management team, are an integral part of the overall management of the Fire Division. The Assistant Fire Chiefs determines, monitors and corrects all safety issues and assists with the department’s overall safety program. Also, the Assistant Fire Chiefs recommend appointments, promotions, and interview new hire candidates. There are three Assistant Fire Chief positions within the Urbandale Fire Department; Assistant Fire Chief: Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Assistant Fire Chief: Training, and Assistant Fire Chief: Operations.
