Volleyball 2

Coed Volleyball League - Winter - $260

Join your friends for the winter season of Coed Volleyball in Urbandale!  We will play an eight week schedule with a season ending tournament in March.  Please specify which league you are interested in at registration.  Games will be played on Sundays.  Games will start anywhere between 6:30-8:30 and last 45 minutes.  Double-headers are possible, depending upon number of teams registered.  Maximum 30 teams so sign up early. Intermediate League - For participants who have played in organized leagues and their skills have progressed beyond a beginner level.  Participants that play at this level have a reasonable knowledge of the rules. Teams serve underhand & overhand, but do not have any jump serves. Teams usually have a bump, set, hit strategy, but may not always coordinate all three for every play.  Teams keep the ball in play due to their athletic ability or their years of experience.  (Please note this is not a beginner league.) Registration Deadline: November 27

Advanced League - For players with a thorough understanding of the game.  Players whose passing, setting or hitting skills are better than intermediate level and performed somewhat consistently. Teams usually have an offense-dominated game that includes designated setters. Includes a good amount of spiking and blocking. Registration Deadline: November 27

Money

Money Smart - $10

The "Money Smart: When Money is Short" 3-part series provides tools to help manage money effectively, make better financial decisions and live according to your priorities. Participants will improve their financial well-being by developing an emergency spending plan, creating a prioritized bill paying strategy based on future consequences, develop skills to improve their own credit, and learn strategies to manage debt.  This class will meet three consecutive Wednesday nights.  Min 6/ Max 15 Instructor: Kalyn Cody, ISU Extension Human Sciences Specialist. Qigong - $40

Qigong (pronounced chee gong) is a practice that enhances the flow of Qi (chee) or energy to restore and maintain our health and wellbeing. This class will bring your mind, body and spirit into balance, increase your vitality, and strengthen your body's defenses. Qigong practice focuses on gentle movements, breathing techniques, and meditation. *No specific clothing, equipment, or experience is needed. *All movements may be done standing, sitting or modified for restrictions and injuries. Tai Chi - $55

This simple form of self-care relaxes the body, calms the mind, increases circulation and energy, and increases balance and coordination while enhancing the body's natural healing process. Tai Chi focuses on gentle movements walking, breathing techniques, and meditation. *No specific clothing, equipment, or experience is needed. *Movements may be done standing, sitting or modified for restrictions and injuries. Writing Your Retirement Paycheck - $30

Writing your retirement paycheck is designed to provide information and resources needed by those approaching retirement within the next ten years.  This workshop outlines key factors to consider prior to retirement and describes strategies for planning one's income in retirement. Yoga Basics With Beth - $40

Discover your strength, flexibility, and balance while you learn to decrease stress through movement and relaxation. This class series is designed for the absolute beginner. In the classes, you will experience gentle warm-ups and receive step-by-step instructions for yoga postures and basic relaxation techniques. Your questions and interaction will be welcome. Whether your intention is to maintain wellness, seek a healing refuge from all of the business in your life, or learn how to grow personally or spiritually, now is the time to honor your intention. Accessible Yoga for Your Body

Are you experiencing physical challenges with the body and think that means you cannot practice yoga? Let me introduce you to Accessible Yoga! This is yoga that welcomes bodies of all ages, sizes, shapes, abilities and backgrounds. This is yoga for those experiencing physical limitations, injury, chronic illness, living in a larger body, physical disability, mobility and balance concerns, or healing after a surgery. This is YOUR yoga. Registration Deadline: January 3, January 31, and February 28.

Accessible Yoga at the Arboretum

Yoga With Beth - $40

The purpose of yoga is to soothe the inner spirit by calming the mind and body. Yoga poses help slow us down and we naturally become more focused and relaxed. As students grow in their yoga experience, the poses become more challenging, allowing the body to grow stronger and more limber. At any level, the benefits of yoga are the same-stronger muscular endurance, sharpened mental clarity, deeper flexibility, improved circulation and immunity and above all a heightened sense of well-being. ZUMBA

Zumba - $38

Everybody and Every Body!  Each Zumba® class is designed to bring people together to sweat on it.  We take the "work" out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party.  Once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you'll see why Zumba® fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise.  Super effective?  Check.  Super Fun?  Check and check.  A total body workout, combining all elements of fitness - cardio, muscle conditioning, balance, flexibility, and boosted energy plus a serious dose of awesome each time you leave a class.  Min 6/Max 20.  Instructor: Melanie Larsen. Registration Deadlines:  November 22, December 27, January 24, February 21

New Year Confetti

New Year's Family Kit - $30

Countdown to 2023 has begun! What better way to ring in the New Year than having fun with the family? The Urbandale Parks and Recreation department is here to help! With our New Year's Family Kits, you can have fun in the comfort of your own home. For just $30, you will get all the supplies needed to welcome in 2022. Our kits offer masks, hats, noise makers, snacks, and activities for the whole family to be a part of! If your New Year's resolution is to spend more time with family, then this is perfect for you. Delivery is limited to LESS than 5.0 miles from Urbandale City Hall (3600 86th Street). Kits will be delivered by 5:00pm, barring any weather delays. If you have controlled access to your front door (apartment or condo), or live outside the 5.0 mile limit, please plan to pick up your kit at the Parks and Recreation office on each given day. Registration Deadline: December 23

 Deep Snow

Winter Family Scavenger Hunt - $20

Bring your family to The Miracle on 86th Street at Charles Gabus Memorial Tree Park, 3520 86th St.  (south of the Urbandale Library).  Santa has left some clues outside the Library, Police Station, and Charles Gabus Tree Park. Collect all the clues to Santa's stash of toys and bring them back to the elves. Each family team that completes the challenge will receive prizes. All teams that complete the challenge will be entered into a drawing for the Grand Prize. Min 5 families/Max 20 families. Please register one adult family member only, and list other members upon prompt at registration. Registration Deadline: December 8

Healthy and Homemade – Cooking for One or Two (18+) - $13

Learn strategies to make the most out of cooking for a household of one or two.  Participants will identify strategies to overcome challenges of small batch cooking, learn about meal planning with MyPlate, discuss good food-safe practices, and munch on some Scrambled Egg Muffins while learning about scaling recipes.  Instructor: Tom Keinert, ISU Extension Nutrition and Wellness Specialist.  Min. 8/ Max. 20.  Registration Deadline: November 24

Discover how planning ahead can reduce stress, save money, and provide your family with nutritious home-cooked meals.  Participants will learn about the benefits of meal planning, how to properly freeze meals, and build two burritos to take home.
