Yard Waste

The Compost It! program recycles yard waste discarded from single-family and multi-family dwellings. The program is in place from April through November (weather-dependent).

You can recycle your yard waste by:

• Premium Service
• Standard Service 

Compost It! yard waste can then be placed at the curb for pick-up on your areas's scheduled pick-up day or dropped off at the Metro Park East Landfill with no charge.

Buying Bags and Stickers
MWA works with grocery, convenience, and hardware stores in Des Moines and other participating communities to stock their shelves with Compost It! bags. Before making a trip to the store, try calling to see if they have Compost It! bags and stickers in stock. Remember that the stickers are probably not on the shelves, but are sold at the customer service area of the larger stores.

Price - Compost It! bags are $1.55 each, or $7.75 for a bundle of five.  Compost It! stickers are $1.00 each.
