Water Utility:
The Urbandale Water utility provides water service to residents and businesses within the Urbandale city limits. The Water Utility purchases treated water from the Des Moines Water Works and distributes this water to the Urbandale customers.  Read the 2014 Water Quality Report.

The Water Utility has two elevated water storage tanks and three booster stations that supply water to three pressure zones---as well as over 175 miles of water mains ranging in size up to 30” in diameter.

The Water Utility offers the following services to its customers:

  • Leak Detection - A faucet or fixture with a leaking stream 1/32” in diameter can leak as much as 205 gallons of water a day or 6,150 gallons of water in a month. 
  • AMR – Automatic Meter Reading devices are being installed in residents that don’t currently have AMR capability. Please contact the Urbandale Water Utility to have the AMR technology installed in your residence.
  • Direct Withdrawal Payments – The Urbandale Water Utility has Direct Pay capability to its customers. This service is free if arranged through the Water Utility and withdrawal is made on the 15th of each month.
  • Online Bill Pay - The Utility offers its customers the ability to view monthly bills, pay your monthly bill online by credit card and sign up for e-bills.

Information for New Residents:
New residents need to contact the Water Utility  within a week from moving in, at (515) 278-3940.  All new residents need to establish a new customer account. 


Online Bill Pay

The Urbandale Water Utility provides its customers with the ability to pay monthly bills online.  Registration is required and can easily completed with your Urbandale Water Utility customer ID number (the last 5 numbers of your account).  You can also view past bills and sign up for electronic bills too.   


Direct-Pay: What is It?
Direct Pay is a free service.  Payment of your monthly water bill is automatic - so you save time, effort and postage.  Plus, electronic banking makes Direct Pay accurate and reliable.

How does Direct Pay work?
You will receive your water bill before the automatic payment is made.  Your financial institution will automatically deduct the amount due from your checking or savings account on the 15th of the month.  The payment will be shown on the account statement you receive from your financial institution.

How do I sign up?
It's easy to sign up for Direct Pay!  Just complete the authorization form, provide a voided check and mail to:

You may also bring the completed from with your voided check to our office or place it in the night depository.  Authorizations received after the 13th of the month will be effective the following month.


Water Meter Reading
How will I submit my monthly meter reading?

Since you will no longer have to mail a payment, you may call the Urbandale Water Utility office with your meter reading, submit a meter reading by email or request an Automated Meter Reading System.
