Staff Services 

Lieutenant Terry Nielsen has been the Staff Services Commander since June of 2002.  He has been with the Urbandale Police Department since 1973, first serving as a communication officer and then Sworn Police Officer in 1975.  During his career with the UPD he has served in the Patrol Division, the Criminal Investigation Division and Support Services Unit.

Lt. Nielsen currently oversees the operations of the Human Resources, Support Services, Crime Prevention Unit, D.A.R.E. Officer Program, Technical Support Unit, School Crossing Guards, Matrons, Police Records, finance, and is the Training Coordinator for the department.  

Lt. Nielsen holds an AA Degree in Criminal Justice from Des Moines Area Community College, is a member of the International Association of Chief’s of Police, Iowa State Policemen’s Association, Iowa Police Chief’s Association.
