Snow Ordinance
69.12 SNOW REMOVAL. The Public Works Director is authorized to declare a snow event, as defined in the City’s snow and ice removal policy, that will cause enactment of these snow parking restrictions. During a designated snow event, no vehicle shall be parked in or on any part of a public street or right-of-way of a public street during snow removal operations, or before such operations have removed or cleared accumulated snow or ice from the street to each curb or shoulder edge. The registered owner of a vehicle parked in violation of this section shall be subject to Sections 70.03 and 70.06 of this Code of Ordinances. [From the Code of Ordinances of the City of Urbandale, 1999.]
During snow events when plowing of residential streets is necessary, the City will put the City's Snow Ordinance into effect. If the Snow Ordinance is in effect, all parked vehicles must be removed from all City streets until the snow has been removed for curb to curb and the snow ordinance has been lifted.
Vehicles parked in the street during a Snow Ordinance event may be ticketed or towed. After a storm, residents may park on the street as soon as it has been plowed from curb to curb or its entire width. To help our operators perform their plowing duties in a safe and efficient manner, we ask that residents park elsewhere when the snow begins to accumulate.
Snow Ordinance events will be announced on the home page of this web site, posted on Twitter, and made available to other local media. During normal business hours (M-F, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), residents may also call 278-3950 to inquire about the Snow Ordinance.
