D.A.R.E.
D.A.R.E. is the national Drug Abuse Resistance Eduction Program. In Urbandale, D.A.R.E. is taught by an Urbandale Police Officer to 5th grade students in the Urbandale Community School District and to the 6th grade at St. Pius Catholic School.
D.A.R.E. gives kids the tools to stay away from drugs and violence by showing them ways to say "No". Saying "No" is backed by D.A.R.E. Role Models, high school students, that talk to the younger students. Showing them that staying drug and violence free isn't as hard as they might think. D.A.R.E. also stresses the importance of consequences in making a decision, not only with drugs or violence.
Urbandale's D.A.R.E. Program also teaches 2nd grade students about stranger danger and the importance of following rules at home.
