Peddler's Permit
Overview:
All peddlers and solicitors who go door-to-door in residential areas of Urbandale must first obtain a peddler's license, per City of Urbandale Code of Ordinances, 1999, section 122.03.
A valid license allows an individual to go door-to-door between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., Monday - Saturday and on Sunday between 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
A license holder must display the license to any prospective customer who asks to see the license.

How to Obtain a License
Obtaining a peddler's license involves submitting an application and undergoing a criminal history check. Obtaining a license can take up to 24 hours. There is a $5 non-refundable application fee, plus $20 if a license is issued. A license is issued to an individual, not an organization, and is non-tranferrable. Therefore, every individual must have a license.
License Application and Criminal History Check forms can be obtained online or at City Hall (3600 86th Street).
Criminal History checks are conducted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI). Criminal History checks must be completed at the DCI office (215 E. 7th Street, Des Moines, IA) prior to submitting your application to the City.
Completed Criminal History checks and the license application, along with payment (check or cash) should be turned into City Hall (3600 86th Street), Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
