The adopted Urbandale Housing Code is the
International Property Maintenance Code 2003 Edition
and Urbandale Ordinance No. 2005-25

To apply for a Single-Family or Duplex:
1. Fill out the Housing Inspection Application
2. Submit the application along with the fee
3. Schedule an inspection by calling 278-3930.
For the year 2011, all Single-Family and Duplex inspections will be conducted by City Staff.

Multi-Family buildings for 2011 are required to:
1. Fill out the 2011 Annual Self Inspection Check List
2. Submit the application by Mail/Fax or Email
3. Self Inspection Checklist should be returned by July 1, 2011
Reminders for all Multi-Family projects have been mailed during 2011.

Effective April 1, 2010:
The State Fire Marshal is requiring all new residential construction to be equipped with dual-sensor smoke detectors and when there is a detector that needs to be replaced, it must be replaced with a dual-sensor detector. http://www.dps.state.ia.us/commis/pib/Releases/2010/03-30-2010_DualDetectors.htm
Effective April 22, 2010:
If you have renovation work on any housing built before 1978, you should contact the Iowa Department of Public Health Lead Bureau at 1-800-972-2026 or http://www.idph.state.ia.us/eh/lead_poisoning_prevention.asp to review contractor requirements.
Effective January 3, 2011:
The Urbandale Fire Code requires by January 3, 2011 apartment buildings with existing automatic fire alarm systems are to be monitored by an approved UL listed remote station in accordance with NFPA 72 to provide for the immediate and automatic notification of the Fire Department.
