D.A.R.E.
D.A.R.E. is the national Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program. In Urbandale, D.A.R.E. is taught by a Urbandale Police Officer to 5th grade students in the Urbandale Community School District and to 6th grade students at St. Pius Catholic School. D.A.R.E. gives kids the tools to stay away from drugs and violence by showing them ways to say no. This is backed by D.A.R.E. Role Models--high school students that talk to the younger students and show them that staying drug free and violence free isn't as hard as they may think.
D.A.R.E also stresses the importance of consequences in making a decision, not only with drugs but also in every decision they make. There is also a 2nd grade class taught to all elementary students about stranger danger and following rules at home.
