Classes offered at the Urbandale Pool
Please register for all classes and/or swimming lessons by: Online at UrbandalePool.org or Call (515) 278-3959 or (515) 278-3963 to register over the phone with VISA/MasterCard/or Discover Card. Drop off a completed registration form with payment at the Urbandale Pool or the Urbandale Parks and Recreation office. Note: for any changes in lessons or programs, there will be a $5.00 administration fee.

Water Kickboxing
An excellent cardio-respiratory, fat-burning workout! Using water resistance weights, the routine builds strength and endurance for a more intense workout than on land, burning approximately 500 calories per hour. (Class held in shallow water. Do not need to know how to swim.)
Weight Resistance Water Aerobics
Another intense workout! This challenging class uses wrist and ankle weights to increase the cardio-respiratory, fat-burning and strength-building workout. Also burns approximately 500 calories per hour. (Class held in shallow water. Do not need to know how to swim.)

High calorie-burning water fitness class! This unique form of exercise takes place in the deep water. Deep water toning exercises give you the full effects of the water resistance without the support of your body's weight.
Want to teach swim lessons? Learn how through this American Red Cross course. Must be 16 years of age, maintain position on your back for 1 minute, tread water for 1 minute, and demonstrate the following for 25 yards to a level 4 ability: front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke and butterfly (15 yards). Certification will allow you to teach group and private swim lessons at the Urbandale Public Pool.
Lifeguard Class
Completion of this American Red Cross course will certify you for lifeguarding, lifeguarding first aid, and professional CPR. Must be 15 years of age by the end of the course, swim 300 yards continuously using (100 yards of front crawl, 100 yards of breast stroke, 100 yards of either breast stroke or front crawl, and swim 20 yards using front crawl or breast stroke, surface dive 10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound brick, return to surface and swim back 20 yards, exit the pool without using a ladder within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
Adult Learn to Swim
Designed for adults who want to learn to swim or perfect their skills. Instruction is individualized.
Fitness Swimmer for Adults
Designed for adults who know how to swim, but want to work on stroke perfection and fitness. Covers all the strokes (front crawl, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, butterfly, back crawl, and breaststroke); open and flip turns; how to circle swim; how to use a pace clock; swim equipment usage (kickboards, pull buoys, paddle, and fins); how to set up an exercise program; various drills and training techniques; and how to calculate target heart rate. Participants will take the Cooper’s 12-minute swim test and compare it to a later assessment, as well as video tape stroke technique before and after class.
