The Urbandale Police Department conducts two public auctions each year. Normally, these auctions are in April and October. The auctions are held at the Public Works Complex, located a 9401 Hickman Road in Urbandale and begin at 9:00 a.m. sharp. You must produce a current driver's license to receive a bidder's number.
The next auction will be in October 2013.
The City of Urbandale will typically sell 30 plus abandoned vehicles at each auction. In addition to the abandoned vehicles, we normally sell a variety of bicycles, electronic items, sports equipment, tools and other miscellaneous items. Potential buyers are allowed to view the vehicles beginning at 8 a.m. on the Saturday of the auction. The bicycles and other small items can be viewed at this time also.
All vehicles purchased are sold as is and must be removed from City property no later than 8:00 a.m. on the 2nd Monday following the auction. Full payment for items purchased must be received by one hour after the conclusion of the sale. A list of the vehicles to be sold is available at the Urbandale Police Department (3740 86th Street.) approximately one week before the auction and also available on this website.
Questions regarding the auctions and/or abandoned vehicles should be directed to Officer George Griffith at (515) 252-8232 or email.
