Snow Removal Priorities
Snow and Ice Control Policy (PDF, 173KB) In a winter weather event, the City will plow snow within the confines of the curbs of a street. During heavy snowfalls there may be times when there is simply not enough room on the parking to store all of the snow from the street. During these times we ask your assistance in clearing the snow from around your mailbox to ensure delivery of the mail. Residents are also responsible for ensuring that their mailboxes are properly installed (6 inches behind the front of the curb and 48 inches above the surface of the street), and that they are adequately constructed to withstand snow clearing efforts by the City. On some occasions, the City will damage a mailbox in the course of plowing. Most commonly, the damage results from plowed snow hitting the mailbox. If this does occur, do not hesitate to contact the Department of Engineering and Public Works at 515.278.3950 or engpw@urbandale.org to discuss repairs.
