911 Bike Rodeo Urbandale Police Bicycle Patrol Officers hold a yearly Bike Rodeo in partnership with greater Des Moines SAFE KIDS Coalition. Kids are given safe biking instructions along with tips on the proper use of a bike helmet. Mechanics from area bike shops inspect and make minor repairs and adjustments to participants’ bicycles before they test their skills on the Bike Rodeo course. ID Theft Identity theft is a crime in which an imposter obtains key pieces of information (such as Social Security and driver's license numbers) and uses them to obtain credit, merchandise and services in the name of the victim. The victim is left with a ruined credit history and the time-consuming and complicated task of regaining financial health. The imposter may even use the victim's good name for criminal activities. Unfortunately, the incidents of identity crime are on the rise, leaving devastation in its wake. Nationally, an estimated 700,000 consumers became victims of identity theft during 2002. Identity theft has reached epidemic proportions. For more information, visit the federal government's Identity Theft Web Site. The Urbandale Police Crime Prevention Unit (515.331.6804) can also help you avoid risks associated with ID Theft. Safety City The Urbandale Police Department has presented the Safety City Program to pre-kindergartners since 1977. This Governor's Award winning program teaches traffic, pedestrian, and home safety to over 100 four- and five-year- olds during one-week sessions every June. Sign ups and information is handled by Olmsted and St. Pius Elementary Schools. See Also: |
