Park Shelters

All open shelters are on a first come – first serve basis and cannot be reserved.  Electricity is not available.  Urbandale has two enclosed shelters, one gazebo and one community room available for private rental (not for profit) to residents and non-residents throughout the year.  Residents may reserve the facilities at any time for the current year.  For the following year, residents may begin reservations the first working day of October.  Non-residents may reserve the facilities the first working day of January for that current year. 

They are great places to have club meetings, wedding and baby showers, receptions, family reunions, birthday parties, or any other social function.  The rental reservation must be made in person at the Parks and Recreation Office at 3600 86th Street.
  • Lions Ralph Whitten Park Shelter is located in Lions Park at 72nd and Aurora.  This shelter includes a full kitchen and approximately 10 tables and 75 chairs.  The building is air-conditioned and heated and accommodates up to 100 people.
     
  • Walker Johnston Park Shelter is located in Walker Johnston Park at 9000 Douglas.  This shelter includes a full kitchen and approximately 10 tables and 75 chairs.  The building in heated and accommodates up to 150 people.
     
  • The Lions Park Gazebo is available for rent only on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  There are no tables or chairs furnished.  Electricity is available upon request.

  Senior Center Community Room

The Community Room is located in the Senior Center at 7305 Aurora.  The Community Room has a full commercial kitchen, air conditioning, and approximately 19 tables and 185 chairs.  The building is available for rent only on Friday nights, and all day on Saturday or Sunday.
