Lions Park 72nd & Aurora 8.0 approx. acres Lions Park is the oldest park in the park system. This park was originally built by the Urbandale Lions Club. The park was donated to the city and the park department has expanded the park over the years. This park contains a shelter house that is available to rent. Also provided are two hard surface courts for basketball and tennis, a large playground, wading pool, open shelter and a gazebo that was built by the eagle scouts. This park is also the home of the Urbandale high school softball team. The shelter house is also where the senior citizens meet. The park provides plenty of space for picnics and grilling. Walker Johnston Park 9000 Douglas Ave. 60.0 approx. acres This 60-acre park is a community size park and the largest park in the city. The park includes five softball diamonds, eight tennis courts, three open shelters, one year round shelter available for rent, bike trails, playgrounds and plenty of space for picnics. The park features a four-softball diamond pinwheel complex for adult softball programs. The bike trails provide a pleasant atmosphere. Along North Walnut Creek the trail attracts an abundance of wildlife for people to enjoy. A new Regional Playground is in it’s 2^nd phase at this time.
