Prior to approval the City did not allow mobile food trucks and vendors to sell food within the City, even on private property. The pilot program was created with input from the Urbandale Chamber of Commerce. The City Manager and the Director of Community Development attended meetings with several Chamber members to discuss the viability of creating a policy to allow food trucks in Urbandale. The pilot program is an outgrowth of feedback from those meetings, along with information from other Metro City mobile food unit programs. Early in 2018, City staff will review the pilot program and evaluate how it was received and functioned, along with any feedback from vendors, customers or businesses. Any future considerations for continuing the program would be brought back to the City Council for review and consideration.
