Compost It! Season Ends November 29

The Yard Waste Collection season will end on Friday, November 29, 2019.   The last week to put out yard waste is the week of November 25th on your regular collection day. Note: Thursday collection day will be on Friday November 29th due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

There will be a "winter" yard waste collection the week of December 30th and the week of January 6th on your regular collection day.   You may put out yard carts, yard bags, bundled sticks with yard waste sticker on each bundle, and live Christmas trees (no yard waste tag needed but please remove all tinsel, etc).   Please have all yard waste out by 6:30 a.m. on your regular collection day during the "winter" yard waste pick up.   The normal yard waste collection will resume again in April of 2020.

If you have any further questions, contact the Urbandale Public Works at #515-278-3950.     Thank you~

Residents can purchase Compost It! brand bags and stickers at local grocers and hardware stores. The purchase of the bags or stickers covers the cost of curbside collection. Small twigs and branches, leaves and lawn clippings, as well as garden vegetation,  can be collected.

  • Twigs and branches: each bundle requires a green Compost it! sticker and must be smaller than four feet long by eighteen inches in diameter.
  • Leaves and lawn clippings: these should be placed at the curb in Compost It! yard waste bags, or store-brand bags with a green Compost It! sticker. No other bags can be collected.
  • Garden vegetation: if it died on the vine, it can be disposed of through the Compost It! program. However, spoiled fruits and vegetables from the fridge belong in the trash.
