Pollinators in Our Iowa Landscape (Ages 14+)

Enjoying your morning java? Feeling healthy with that blueberry smoothie? How was that 3pm brownie? All of this - and more! - are made possible by pollinators. Whether you garden in a yard or on your balcony, learn how you can create an environment to enhance their populations. We'll also cover how these animals pollinate about 75% of our flowering plants and crops...and what exactly they're doing when they visit our flowers. Learn about the importance of bees - both honey bees and mason bees - and how you can raise mason bees in your garden (hint: it's easy!!). Without these pollinators, wildlife would have fewer nutritious berries and seeds, and we'd miss many foods like blueberries, squash, and almonds . . . not to mention chocolate and coffee! No experience necessary. Minimum 6 participants. Instructor: Anne Nieland.
