Fire Operations

Welcome! The UFD's Fire Operations is responsible for fire suppression, Rescue, and command staff operations. The UFD operates 2 fire stations with a total of 2 ladder trucks, 2 engines, a rescue truck, an attack truck, and several command vehicles.

Assistant Fire Chief: Operations - Scott Lyon Biography

Assistant Chief Lyon is a 23 year veteran of emergency services.  Assistant Chief Lyon began his career as a volunteer firefighter in Central Iowa and was hired as a career firefighter/paramedic in 1998.
Assistant Chief Lyon has served as a Lieutenant and Deputy Chief prior to his appointment as the Assistant Chief of Operations with the Urbandale Fire Department in 2015

Education & Experience

Assistant Chief Lyon is a graduate of the Mercy College of Health Sciences Paramedic Program and also a graduate of Waldorf College with a Bachelor of Science in Fire Administration earning Magna Cum Laude honors.  In 2004 Assistant Chief Lyon was the recipient of Fire Rescue Magazine’s Company Officer of the Year award.  Assistant Chief Lyon also holds numerous certifications that include Fire Officer II, Instructor II, Fire Investigator, and Paramedic.  Over the years Assistant Chief Lyon has presented at numerous regional conferences and has spoken statewide on the topic of firefighter line of duty death prevention and safety.  If you have questions, please feel free to Email Chief Lyon.
