Garbage, Recycling & Yard Waste

The Solid Waste Division helps to maintain a clean and healthy Urbandale environment by collecting and disposing of residential garbage, recycling, and yard waste.  Household garbage is collected weekly by the City of Urbandale. Yard debris is collected weekly by the City of Urbandale through the MWA Compost It! program. Recyclables are collected every-other week by Waste Management through the MWA Curb It! recycling program.

Collection Schedule
Trash, Curb It! and Compost it! is normally collected Monday through Thursday. Residents should place their containers and Compost It! bags at the curb by 6:30 a.m. on the morning of their collection day. View the collection route map (PDF).
   
Holiday Schedule
If a holiday falls on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, there is no collection on the holiday, collection is delayed 1 day for the remainder of the week. Holidays for 2016 without trash or recycling collection are:
  • Memorial Day, Monday, May 30th (Trash will be collected Tuesday-Friday this week)
  • 4th of July, Monday, July 4th (Trash will be collected Tuesday - Friday this week)
  • Labor Day, Monday, September 5th (Trash will be collected Tuesday-Friday this week)
  • Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 24th (Thursday collection will be on Friday this week)
  • Christmas falls on a Sunday; no collection delays for Urbandale residents.
  • New Year's Day 2017 falls on a Sunday; no collection delays for Urbandale residents.
Collection normally scheduled for these days will occur on the following weekday, collection will be delayed by 1 day for the remainder of the week.
